Dem Rep: Actually, It's Donald Trump Who's Responsible for the Attempts on His Life

If you’ve been watching Rep. Dan Goldman lately, it’s hard not to notice how often he’s put out there as one of the Democrats’ go-to attack voices. The problem is, he rarely comes across as convincing. On TV, he tends to look unprepared and overly scripted, like he’s just repeating whatever talking points were handed to him rather than making a strong, coherent case of his own.

Meanwhile, the situation over the weekend at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was serious and shouldn’t be brushed aside. A man identified as Cole Allen reportedly approached the venue armed and attempted to get inside before being stopped and taken into custody. Authorities say he admitted he was targeting Trump officials, and reports indicate the president himself was a primary focus.

What’s frustrating is how quickly some figures, including Goldman, try to turn incidents like this into a way to blame Trump. That leap doesn’t hold up. There’s a big difference between harsh political rhetoric something both parties engage in and language that paints someone as such an existential threat that extreme individuals might feel justified acting on it.

For years now, a lot of messaging from the left has leaned heavily on describing Trump not just as wrong on policy, but as dangerous to the very survival of the country. That kind of framing has consequences. It raises the temperature in a way that goes beyond normal political disagreement.

At the same time, it’s important to be honest about what we do and don’t know. Every act of political violence should be condemned outright, no matter who commits it or who they claim to support. But pretending this is all somehow the fault of the person being targeted doesn’t make sense, and it doesn’t help calm things down either.

If anything, moments like this should be a wake-up call to dial back the rhetoric across the board and focus on real debate instead of constant escalation.

  1. Yes, this rhetoric should be dialed back, . The thing is there are so many evil people, also in extreme need of getting attention,. These people will continue this rhetoric bc of being evil ,and they will get 5 minutes of attention. That is a big deal for these crazies. They truly need to seek help in reframing from this type of low class behavior.
