The Anti-Obama: Trump Urges Iranians to Take Back Their Country 'The Hour of Your Freedom Is at Hand'

The United States and Israel have launched coordinated strikes on Iran after repeated negotiations failed to persuade the mullahs to abandon their nuclear ambitions. Unsurprisingly, Iran responded by firing missiles at Israel, its longtime adversary.

What stands out in this moment is President Trump’s clear call for the Iranian people to rise up against their oppressive regime. Contrast that with 2009, when millions of Iranians protested for freedom during the Green Movement. Back then, President Obama offered only tepid support, leaving those brave citizens without meaningful backing. His later decision to pursue the 2015 nuclear deal only enriched Tehran and left them accountable to no one a move that has contributed to the crises we now face.

Obama has since called his lack of support for the Green Movement a “mistake,” acknowledging that moments of hope for freedom should be highlighted and supported. But the truth is, leadership doesn’t come with do-overs. When you’re commander in chief, hesitation can have lasting consequences especially with a regime that has a long history of violence, including the 444-day hostage crisis in 1979 that only ended under Republican President Ronald Reagan.

President Trump, by contrast, took decisive action in 2020 by eliminating Major General Qasem Soleimani, a key architect of Iran’s brutality. While the regime has persisted, this latest operation may finally weaken them in a meaningful way. History has shown that Iran’s leadership is ruthless and hostile to the modern world. It’s difficult to imagine a scenario where mercy is warranted.

For many, the hope is that this marks the beginning of the end for the Iranian regime and that the Iranian people themselves can finally reclaim the freedom and dignity they have been denied for decades.
